Creating a High Performance Culture: Media Company Australia

The Challenge

    The client was already on a change journey when we were initially asked in 2012 to put forward some ideas to help them with the next stage of change. The intent was to help them become the number one player in their market in Australia, attract and retain talent, help drive results through skills development in the sales function and develop bench strength in leadership and management across the business.

The Solution

    The solution was multi-faceted. A tiered leadership program for Established Leaders, Emerging Leaders and Future Leaders. This program incorporated a 3 day workshop, action learning projects to help participants transfer what they had learned into action, coaching, a 360 feedback process and an online community to allow participants in different locations and functions to share ideas and best practice.
    For the sales function a tailored program was developed for the two sales teams, direct and agency. A series of workshops were run through the year. Sales leaders were heavily involved in the learning process, so they could continue the process of improvement and learning as part of business as usual.
    This was not a one off series of workshops. There were specific actions that were followed through by managers, planning tools, online communities to foster sharing and collaboration. The program is continuing and evolving as internal training skills are developed in all leaders.

Results

    The work Wentworth is partnering with the client is just one element in a broad change process, involving new on air talent, a rebranding of stations and process improvements. At the time of writing the client has achieved the number 1 rating across all markets they operate in. Revenues are up, talent retention and attraction is up and the business is tracking brilliantly. We are playing our part in helping make sure that success is sustainable.
